5 Essential Organizing Tools
My 5 Must-Have Organizing Tools I Take on Every Job
When I work with clients, I bring my “Mary Poppins bag” of supplies, which holds tools that help both my client and myself be more efficient and physically comfortable as we declutter and organize.
Here are my top 5 essentials that I take on every job and highly recommend for your own organizing journey.
Painter’s Tape & Sticky Notes
I use both of these items as temporary labels to help keep track of what’s inside bins and drawers or for different piles as I’m working through a space. The beauty of these tools is that they are easy to use and easily removable.
2. Tape Measure
A tape measure is especially important if you want to purchase organizing products for your spaces. It’s also important for truly making sure something fits in a space, before you put the energy into moving it.
3. Step Stool & Kneeling Pad
I use a collapsible step stool to reach items high up, but also as a seated stool, when I’m working low to the ground.
The kneeling pad is also a game-changer for working low to the ground — like when I need to kneel and fold clothes on a low bed.
Trust me, your body will thank you for it!
4. Folding Board
For that perfect uniformed look of folded clothes on shelves and in drawers, a folding board is the secret. They are simple to use and make sure that the folded lines and shapes are precise.
5. Label Maker
For the finishing touch, labels reduce the cognitive load by making it clear what items go where. The labels can be both functional and stylish.
Honorable Mentions: Sharpies, Scissors & Box Cutter
I use Sharpies for temporary labeling and large scissors are always handy for opening up boxes. When doing an unpacking job that involves heavy duty tape, the box cutter works even better than scissors.
